This technical note explains how to configure Reflection to connect to a custom Telnet port.

Resolution

Connecting to a Custom Telnet Port

Most Telnet hosts wait for an incoming connection on TCP Port 23. Reflection terminal emulators are set to use port 23 by default. If your host computer is configured to use a different port number, you can change the port setting in Reflection and save it as a custom settings file to simplify future connections.

Configuring the TCP Port Number

To change the TCP port number in Reflection, follow these steps:

  1. From the Connection menu, select Connection Setup.
  2. Choose Network, then select TELNET from the Connect Using list.
  3. Click More Settings to open the More Settings - TELNET dialog box.
  4. Enter the TCP port number that your host computer uses for a Telnet connection. Click OK.
  5. Click Connect to make your Telnet connection.

Saving the Connection to a Settings File

You can save your TCP port settings to a custom settings file and create a shortcut or icon to launch Reflection with these saved settings. To save a custom settings file, follow these steps:

  1. From the File menu, select Save As to open the Save Settings dialog box.
  2. Enter a name for your settings file. You can give the settings file a unique name, such as the name of the host computer.
  3. To create a shortcut or icon that launches Reflection with your custom settings file, click Shortcut. Select your preferred shortcut location and click OK to return to the Save Settings dialog box.
  4. Click Save to save your custom settings file.
