EXTRA! X-treme 9.1 provides a range of significant enhancements:
The “Compatible with Windows 7” logo ensures that EXTRA! meets the strict security, reliability, performance and compatibility standards of this latest Microsoft operating system, including but not limited to the following:
EXTRA! has been tested with and supports Windows Vista SP2.
EXTRA! supports 64-bit Windows 7, in addition to other Windows x64 editions. For more information on EXTRA! support for 64-bit operating systems, see Technical Note 1953.
EXTRA! performs reliably in multi-user environments, such as Citrix Presentation Server (XenApp) and Microsoft Windows Terminal Server.
You can now open and create sessions quickly and easily when you start EXTRA!. You can open recent sessions or select other options by clicking hyperlinks, using hotkeys, or navigating with Tab and arrow keys. For details, see Technical Note 2465.
In addition to full support of IPv6 and IPv4 addresses, EXTRA! supports multiple addresses for each AS/400 host name.
In-depth testing of this new System i platform ensures enhanced support as the AS/400 platform evolves.
EXTRA! adheres to stringent security policies outlined by the US government’s Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC) standard.
By default, EXTRA! X-treme 9.1 installs productivity features (such as Screen History and Spelling Checker) and a Most Recently Used (MRU) list of sessions and documents. You can modify these features, and in some cases, remove them from the application. To control productivity features, see Technical Note 2140. To disable productivity features using Windows Group Policy, see Technical Note 2457. To modify the MRU list, see Technical Note 2454.
You can print intensified fields in 3270 sessions in normal text instead of bolded text (the default). In the Print Screen dialog box, select the "Print emphasized fields in bold" option.
Printing to an HP Printer Appliance device is now supported. For more information, see Technical Note 2456.
This latest and most secure FTP Client supports most FTP servers and a variety of security protocols, including SOCKS, SSL/TLS, Kerberos, Secure Shell (SSH), and firewall servers. Reflection FTP Client is available from the Start menu and comes with its own documentation.
Continuous updating of FIPS 140-2 validated security components eliminates most recently found vulnerabilities.
Protect sensitive data (for example, Social Security or account numbers) by removing it from the display or by preventing it from being captured via the Print Screen, Cut, Copy, and Paste commands. EXTRA! supports filtering in Screen History, Recent Typing, and publishing to Microsoft Word and Outlook. (Filtering of bitmap images to the Clipboard applies in 3270 and 5250 sessions only.) Privacy filters are defined on a per-user basis and apply to all sessions for the given user. To configure Privacy settings, from the Options menu, select Productivity Settings, click the General tab, and then click the Information Privacy Settings button.
You can use executable command line options to save any changes you make when a session (.EDP) file is active. For more information about the command line functionality included with EXTRA! X-treme 9.x, see Technical Note 2153.
When an AID Key is sent to an IBM host, Insert Mode is automatically disabled by default. To keep Insert Mode enabled, click Options > Settings > Display, click the Attributes tab and in the Attribute Options dialog box, select the Preserve Insert Between Screens option. Insert mode will stay enabled until the INSERT key is pressed.
The property EXTRASystem.Sessions(n).Name returns the session name in a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters. To return session names in uppercase letters only, use REGEDIT to change the default value for "NamePropertyInCAPS" to "YES" in the Windows Registry. This registry setting is located in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Attachmate\EXTRA!\WorkstationUser\Preferences.
You can improve performance in IND$FILE transfers by increasing the default structured field size for manual transfers to 8KB. To change the structured field size in IND$FILE transfers, choose Tools > Transfer File Settings, and in the Structured Field Size group, change the value in the Manual box to 8KB.
Updated spell check engine provides improved spelling correction functionality.
High Performance Routing (HPR), a feature available on the EXTRA! Connections Pack through the Custom Install option, is no longer supported in EXTRA! X-treme 9.1 but is available for customers who still require this unsupported connectivity.
Support for 16-bit API options has been discontinued in EXTRA! X-treme. In addition, EXTRA! X-treme 9.1 doesn't support standard transport 16-bit HLLAPI. For more information, see Technical Note 2319.
To view the Help in Windows 7 or Vista, you must download the Windows Help Program (WinHlp32.exe) from the Microsoft Web site. For more information, see Technical Note 2294.
For installation information, see the EXTRA! X-treme 9.1 Getting Started Guide, http://support.attachmate.com/manuals/extra.html.
You are no longer required to enter an access code when you install EXTRA! By default, EXTRA! installs productivity features. To deploy EXTRA! without productivity features, see Technical Notes 2140 and 2457.
EXTRA! X-treme 9.1 can be installed over EXTRA! X-treme v9.0 (including service packs), EXTRA! X-treme v8.x, and myEXTRA! Enterprise 7.11. For information on manually upgrading from EXTRA! Personal Client version 6.x, see Technical Note 2151.
The Custom Installation Wizard, a utility for administrators to pre-configure custom install parameters, can be installed simply by copying CustomInstallationWizard.exe from the Tools folder (see Technical Note 2165). When you start the wizard, you are no longer required to enter the access code.
Although you can select the option "This Feature will be Installed When Required" during a custom installation, the option is not supported in this version of EXTRA! X-treme.
To delete files that may be in use, Attachmate recommends rebooting your computer after uninstalling this product.
When using Group Policy to publish EXTRA! X-treme to users, EXTRA! X-treme must be installed before the EXTRA! 6530 Client Option can be installed.
When you install EXTRA! X-treme 9.1 over EXTRA! X-treme 8 with myEXTRA! 6530 Client Option 8 installed, the 6530 Client Option 8 is removed. To enable Tandem connectivity, you must install EXTRA! 6530 Client Option 9.1 after you install EXTRA! X-treme 9.1. Contact your Attachmate Sales representative for information on the EXTRA! 6530 Client Option 9.1.
On computers running Windows XP, the DLC driver is installed as part of a Typical installation of EXTRA! X-treme. If, however, you want to install this driver manually on a Windows XP computer, see Technical Note 2464.
Although the Attachmate DLC driver for Windows XP cannot be covered under the “Designed for Windows XP” logo, it has been tested extensively on the Windows XP platform and works well.
The DLC driver cannot be installed on Windows 7 or Windows Vista.
