Domain User Unable to Change Password When Using SSH
Technical Note 2404
Last Reviewed 09-Jan-2009
Applies To
Reflection for Secure IT Windows Server version 6.1 through SP4
Summary

When making an SSH connection, users' whose passwords have expired are prompted to enter a new password; however, after entering a new password, a "General connection failure" error displays. This technical note describes the error and provides a workaround.

After the "General connection failure" error is displayed, the following entries appear in the Reflection for Secure IT Windows Server log:

SshWinuser: ssh_user_change_password : NetUserChangePassword for
'username' on SERVERNAME returned 1351
Ssh2AuthPasswdServer: Failed to change password
Ssh2AuthPasswdServer: Password authentication failed.
EVENTLOG(info): Password authentication for user username failed
(from IP_Address port portNo).

Note: The "General connection failure" error occurs when connecting using Reflection for Secure IT Windows Client. The error may vary when connecting using an alternate client.

This issue is resolved in Reflection for Secure IT version 7.0 or higher. For information about migrating and upgrading to version 7.0 or higher, see Technical Note 2283.
