Java SE 6 Update version 10 or higher
Summary

This technical note describes issues that may occur when Reflection for the Web applets are run on client machines under the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 10 or higher. To resolve these issues, contact Attachmate Technical Support to obtain a Reflection for the Web update.

Background

Beginning with Java SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 10 (Java 6u10), Sun Microsystems (now Oracle) made a significant change to the architecture of the Java Plug-in, which may cause the following issues in Reflection for the Web:

Links List and Dialog Boxes Unavailable

The Reflection for the Web links list and some dialog boxes either fail to appear or appear as a gray box when run in this environment:

  • Reflection for the Web 2008 R1 or R2
  • Java SE 6 Update 12 (Java 6u12)

To resolve this issue, contact Attachmate Technical Support, http://support.attachmate.com/contact/, to obtain the Reflection for the Web update appropriate for your environment.

Session Unexpectedly Disconnects

The revised architecture of the Java Plug-in causes Reflection for the Web client sessions to disconnect and close when Java 6u10 (or a later version) is installed and the user browses away.

This behavior has been observed in this environment:

  • Reflection for the Web 2008 R1, or Reflection for the Web 2008 R2 (prior to build 515), or Reflection for the Web version 9.x
  • Java SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 10 (Java 6u10) or later

Note: If the Java version is 1.6.0_07 or earlier, your Reflection sessions will not be affected.

To resolve this issue, first answer the Troubleshooting questions (below), and then contact Attachmate Technical Support to obtain the Reflection for the Web update appropriate for your environment.

Links List Freezes

If you have Java 6u26 installed and run Reflection for the Web 2008, under some circumstances, the links list and the Administrative WebStation may freeze, requiring you to close the browser.

To resolve this issue, apply the latest Reflection for the Web 2008 hotfix or upgrade to Reflection for the Web 2011.

Additional Information

For more information about Java SE 6 Update 10 and later versions, see the Sun web site:

Troubleshooting

If you encounter these or other issues with Reflection for the Web, gather the following information and then contact Attachmate Technical Support.

  • What unexpected behavior are you seeing?
  • What version of Reflection for the Web are you running?

If it is Reflection for the Web 2008 R2, note the build number, which can be found in the terminal emulator: Help > About.

  • What version(s) of the Java Plug-in is (are) installed?
  • Which browser and what version are you using?
  • Which of the following methods are used to launch Reflection for the Web sessions?
    • The links list using a URL in this format: http://<servername>/rweb

What URL is being used to launch the links list?

    • A direct URL (instead of the links list)
    • An embedded session in a portal environment
