Upgrading Reflection for Secure IT Client for Windows from an Evaluation Copy

To upgrade Reflection for Secure IT Windows Client from an evaluation copy to a licensed copy, follow the steps below.

Note: You do not need to uninstall the evaluation copy before installing the licensed copy. The licensed copy of Reflection for Secure IT will automatically detect and upgrade the evaluation copy. However, if you have also applied an evaluation Service Pack, you must uninstall the Reflection for Secure IT evaluation before installing the licensed copy. Apply the licensed Service Pack after that.

  1. Double-click the downloaded product installer file. Or, if you previously ran the downloaded product file, browse to the folder where you unzipped the installation files and double-click setup.exe.
  2. The Reflection Installation Wizard will display the following message: "A prior version of this product was detected and will be replaced by the contents of this installation package." Click Continue.
  3. Accept the license agreement and click Continue.
  4. The installer displays four tabs: User Information, File Locations, Feature Selections, and Advanced options. The licensed version will detect and use your previous settings.

Note: It is strongly recommended that you install the Reflection licensed copy to the same folder as the evaluation copy. If you choose to install the licensed copy of Reflection to a different folder than where the evaluation copy is installed, your settings cannot be migrated. You can install the licensed copy to the desired location and then create new settings.

  1. Click Upgrade.

The installation will upgrade Reflection for Secure IT Windows Client and will remove files associated with the evaluation copy. Add/Remove Programs will list only the licensed version of Reflection you installed.

Note: All settings and files that are created in a Reflection for Secure IT evaluation copy will be migrated and will run in the licensed copy of Reflection for Secure IT.

Administrative Installation

The evaluation copy of Reflection for Secure IT Windows Client is not intended to be deployed to mission-critical workstations. If you tested Reflection for Secure IT by performing an administrative installation and creating a transform with Customization Manager using the evaluation copy, Attachmate recommends that you create a new administrative installation, a new transform, and new customizations to deploy the licensed copy of Reflection for Secure IT.

This process includes re-recording the installation for the users, and adding files. You do not need to re-create the settings files; just add them to the new transform.

Upgrading Reflection for Secure IT Server for Windows from an Evaluation Copy

To upgrade Reflection for Secure IT Server for Windows (RSSW) from an evaluation copy to a licensed copy, follow the steps below.

Note the following:

  • The licensed copy of RSSW will automatically detect and upgrade the evaluation copy. The licensed copy uses the same install and program data locations as the evaluation copy. All settings and files that are created in a Reflection for Secure IT evaluation copy will be migrated and will run in the licensed copy of RSSW.
  • Backup the RSecureServer folder if you want to use the same host identity, credential cache and server configuration used during evaluation.  Evaluation copies versioned 8.2 SP1 and higher use the path C:\ProgramData\Micro Focus\RSecureServer to store and read data. Earlier versions used the path C:\ProgramData\Attachmate\RSecureServer.
  1. (Optional) Back up the RSSW's host key, credential cache and server configuration files before you install the licensed copy. The files are located in C:\ProgramData\Micro Focus\RSecureServer.
Files:
a. The RSSW configuration file is rsshd_config.xml.
b. The RSSW's host key pair files are hostkey and hostkey.pub.
c. The RSSW's credential cache uses RSITDatabase and RSITDatabase.sec.
d. The Logs folder contains debug logs, audit logs and the console validation log.
  1. Browse to the folder where you downloaded the installation package rsit-winserv-<version>-product.exe and double left mouse click the executable to begin the installation.
  2. The Reflection Installation Wizard will display the following message: "A prior version of this product was detected and will be replaced by the contents of this installation package." Click Continue.
  3. Accept the license agreement and click Continue.
  4. The installer displays three tabs: User Information, File Locations, and Advanced options, which enables you to select the installation type (install to this PC or create an administrative installation).

The licensed version will detect and use your previous settings. Even if you choose a different file location to install the licensed version, the evaluation program files will be removed by the upgrade installation.

  1. Click Upgrade.
  2. After the upgrade is complete, you will be prompted to restart the computer. Select “Restart my computer for me” to have the installer restart the computer, or click Close to restart the computer at a later time.

Installation Notes:

  • The server requires Microsoft XML Parser. If the evaluation copy of Reflection for Secure IT has been installed and running, then Microsoft XML Parser should already be installed. If this parser is not already present on your system, the setup program installs it.
  • Reflection for Secure IT Server for Windows 8.3 installs MSVC++ runtime version 14.15 from Visual Studio 2017.  The files are included in the 8.3 MSI installer and are no longer included as a prerequisite installer as in 8.2.  You may see a "Files in use, Some applications that need to be updated are currently in use." message pop up during the installation of 8.3, even with Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable already installed. This happens when   MSVC++ 2017 has lower version files, e.g. 14.12, than included with the 8.3 installer.  You can either choose to "Automatically close and attempt to restart these applications" or "Do not close these applications. (a reboot will be required).  Reflection for Secure IT Server for Windows requires a server reboot to complete its installation.
