This technical note describes Attachmate product support for Microsoft Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007 and lists any known issues.
To ensure optimum performance and support for your Attachmate product running on Vista, run the Attachmate product version that is officially supported on Windows Vista.
For a list of applications that are officially supported on Windows Vista, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article ID 933305: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/933305.
The following Attachmate products earned Microsoft's "Certified for Windows Vista" logo, which ensures that they meet the Windows Vista standards for security, reliability, compatibility, and ease of installation.
The following Attachmate products have the "Works with Windows Vista" designation, which ensures their compatibility with Windows Vista:
Review the following sections for information about Reflection for the Web, Verastream Host Integrator, and earlier versions of Attachmate products listed above.
Earlier versions of Attachmate products listed above have not been fully tested on the Vista platform and therefore may experience problems with Windows Vista. If issues arise, they will be addressed in future product releases.
Reflection for the Web version 9.x and Reflection for the Web 2008 client components will run on Windows Vista as long as Reflection for the Web is running on a system that meets minimum system requirements for the operating system, the Java runtime environment, and the web browser.
For a list of system requirements, see the Reflection for the Web Technical Specifications: http://www.attachmate.com/Products/Host+Connectivity/Terminal+Emulation/Reflection/rweb/tech-specs.htm.
For additional information about Reflection for the Web and Java Virtual Machines, see Technical Note 1674.
Verastream Host Integrator version 6.5 and earlier is not supported on Windows Vista. See Known Issues below.
Review the following known issues with Microsoft Vista or 2007 Microsoft Office and Attachmate products. Check this technical note periodically for updated reports of known issues.
Windows Help program (WinHlp32.exe) is no longer included with Windows. To open product help, you may need to install the Windows Help program. For additional information, see Technical Note 2294.
Microsoft Office 2007 users may notice that when Reflection is uninstalled, a repair program is run for VBA. This repair is automatic and does not affect the performance of Microsoft Office 2007.
The Reflection NFS client, which ships with some Reflection products, is not supported on the Windows Vista platform. If the NFS client is already installed on an older Windows system that you plan to upgrade to Vista, it is strongly recommended that you uninstall the NFS client before upgrading the operating system.
For further details, please contact Attachmate Technical Support.
Reflection LPD, which ships with some Reflection products, is not supported on the Windows Vista platform.
Note: Some editions of Windows Vista include LPD print service. (If available in your edition of Vista, you can install LPD Print Service from Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off > Print Services > LPD Print Service.)
If you run Reflection for UNIX and OpenVMS 64-bit on Vista 64-bit and then launch Reflection and save a settings file, starting Reflection from the settings file will fail. To resolve this issue, upgrade to Reflection 14.0 SP1 or higher.
In Reflection for IBM and the Reflection FTP Client running on Vista, the SSL/TLS tab is missing. To resolve this issue, upgrade to Reflection 14.0 SP1 or higher.
There is a known issue integrating Reflection for the Web with IIS 7 on Windows Server 2008. Contact Attachmate Technical Support for information about a workaround.
Vista is not a server operating system. We do not recommend running Reflection for the Web server components in a production environment on a workstation operating system such as Vista.
If you must install Reflection for the Web servers on a Vista workstation, note that Windows Vista has a new security component called User Account Control (UAC). Under this new infrastructure, administrators have administrative privileges, but applications run by administrators are run with standard user permissions, unless the user specifically authorizes the application to use higher privileges. This affects the ability to run the following Reflection for the Web components from the Start Menu: Uninstall, Start Servlet Runner, and all of the wizards in the Utility group. (Servers that are installed as a service run correctly on Vista.)
To configure the Reflection Start Menu icons to run with administrative privileges, right-click the shortcut and click Properties. On the Compatibility tab, select the "Run this program as an administrator" check box, and then click Ok.
To configure Windows Vista to permit an application to run with elevated privileges:
In Verastream Host Integrator version 6.5 and earlier, the Development Kit Setup may not properly complete installation on Windows Vista. This issue is expected to be addressed in a future product release. Supported platforms are listed in Technical Note 10030.
