Upgrading Reflection from an Evaluation Copy to a Licensed Version
Technical Note 1875
Last Reviewed 13-Oct-2005
Applies To
Reflection for the Web 2008
Reflection for HP version 13.x
Reflection for UNIX and OpenVMS version 13.x
Reflection for IBM version 13.x
Reflection X version 13.x
Reflection NFS Client version 13.x
Reflection for Secure IT version 6.x
Summary

When you finish evaluating a Reflection product, follow the guidelines referenced in this technical note before installing the fully-licensed version.

Refer to the section for your Reflection product:

Reflection for the Web

Before you install the fully-licensed version of Reflection for the Web 2008, you must uninstall the evaluation copy. See Technical Note 1665 for details.

Reflection X, Reflection for IBM, and Reflection for HP, UNIX and OpenVMS

You do not need to uninstall the evaluation copy of Reflection 13.0 before installing the fully-licensed version.

The licensed version of Reflection will automatically detect and upgrade the evaluation copy. All settings and files that are created in a Reflection evaluation copy will be migrated and will run in a licensed copy of Reflection that is installed to the same location.

See Technical Note 1502 for more information about these situations:

If you choose to install the licensed copy of Reflection to a different folder than where the evaluation copy is installed, your settings cannot be migrated. You can install the licensed copy to the desired location and then create new settings.

If you choose the "Typical" installation type during the upgrade, the default features will be installed rather than those features originally selected when you installed the Reflection evaluation copy.

If you tested Reflection by performing an administrative installation and creating a transform with Customization Manager, it is recommended that you create a new administrative installation, a new transform, and new customizations to deploy the licensed copy of Reflection. This process includes re-recording the installation for the users, profiling Reflection, and adding files. You do not need to re-create the settings files, just add them to the new transform.

Note: To save customized settings in an existing version of Reflection before installing an evaluation copy of Reflection, see Technical Note 1601.

Reflection NFS Client

To move from an evaluation copy of Reflection NFS Client to a licensed copy, you must uninstall the evaluation copy, restart the computer, install the licensed copy, and then restart the computer. See Technical Note 1678 for details.

Reflection for Secure IT

To upgrade from an evaluation copy to a fully-licensed version, refer to the process for your specific product:

SSH Windows Client

You do not need to uninstall the evaluation copy of the Reflection SSH Windows client before installing the fully-licensed version.

The licensed version of Reflection will automatically detect and upgrade the evaluation copy. All settings and files that are created in a Reflection evaluation copy will be migrated and will run in a licensed copy of Reflection that is installed to the same location.

Note: If you choose to install the licensed copy of Reflection to a different location, your settings cannot be migrated. You can install the licensed copy to the desired location and then create new settings.

SSH Windows Server

Uninstall the evaluation copy before you install the fully-licensed version of the Reflection SSH Windows server. Before uninstalling, be sure to stop the Reflection for Secure IT Server.

For specific instructions, see the Uninstallation topic in the product manual, which is linked from http://support.attachmate.com/manuals/sshdocs.html.

SSH UNIX Server and Client

Uninstall the evaluation copy before you install the fully-licensed version of the Reflection SSH UNIX server and client.

Note: If you modified either the sshd2_config or ssh2_config file and you want to keep those settings, make a back-up copy of the files before you uninstall Reflection for Secure IT. Uninstalling removes those files and you will need to customize your installation again.

Uninstallation instructions for your specific platform are provided in the product manual, which is linked from http://support.attachmate.com/manuals/sshdocs.html.
