Attachmate terminal emulation products cannot be installed directly onto desktops running Linux/UNIX; however, several Attachmate product solutions are available that enable users to access their host systems from Linux/UNIX workstations. These options include providing web-based emulation using Reflection for the Web or running Windows-based Attachmate products on virtualization platforms. This technical note provides a brief overview of how Reflection products fit into these environments.
The following Attachmate solutions enable users to access their host systems from Linux/UNIX desktops. (Each of these solutions is described in more detail in following sections.)
Run browser-based Reflection for the Web with an appropriate Java Virtual Machine (JVM).
Run Windows-based Attachmate products on a virtualization platform.
Reflection for the Web is a Java-based solution that delivers web-based terminal emulation to IBM, HP, UNIX, and OpenVMS host applications through a web browser.
Reflection for the Web terminal sessions for end users are designed to run in any Java 2-compliant web browser or applet viewer that can run trusted applets. The Administrative WebStation is designed to run in any Java 2-compliant web browser that can run trusted applets and supports JavaScript.
For additional information about browser and virtual machine requirements, see the following resources.
Attachmate Windows-based products can run on a virtualization platform; for a detailed list, see Technical Note 2380.
