Applies To
Reflection NFS Client version 10.0 or higher
Summary
The Reflection NFS Client allows you to direct a print job to a printer on an NFS server (without using LPR). Use the procedures below to set up NFS printing.
Note the following:
- The Reflection NFS Client standalone product is also included as a component of several Reflection products. For details, refer to Technical Note 3000.
- For information about which versions of Reflection NFS are supported on each Microsoft Windows platform, see Technical Note 1866.
NFS Printer Setup
Follow these steps to configure an NFS printer.
Note: For Reflection NFS Client printing support, the host must be using version 2 of the pcnfsd. Reflection does not support pcnfsd version 1. For further details on troubleshooting NFS printing, see Technical Note 7047.
Locating the NFS Server
In Windows XP: Click Start > right-click My Network Places > Search for Computers. Enter the name or IP address of the NFS server and click Search.
In Windows 2000: Right-click My Network Places > Search for Computers. Enter the name or IP address of the NFS server and click Search Now.
In Windows 98/ME and Window NT: Click Start > Find > Computer. Enter the name or IP address of the NFS server and click Find or Find Now.
Configuring an NFS Printer
Once you have located the NFS server, follow the steps below to configure the NFS printer:
- Logon to the NFS server (right-click the server and select NFS Logon).
- Double-click the NFS server to view the list of available exported file systems and printers.
- Right-click the printer you want to use, and then click Install or Connect on the shortcut menu.
- Answer the questions in the Add Printer Wizard dialog box.
In Windows XP, Windows 2000, or Windows NT: You may see the message "The server on which the printer resides does not have a suitable printer driver installed." Click OK.
In Windows 98/ME: You will be asked if you need to print from DOS applications. (You can only print to an NFS printer from DOS applications in Windows 98/ME.)
- If not, click No and then click Next.
- If you do need to print from DOS applications, select Yes, and then click Next. Click Capture Printer Port. The Capture Printer Port dialog box provides a list of all available printer ports. It is best to pick a port that is not already assigned.
- From the list of printer types, select the printer option that matches the NFS host printer.
- If you are asked whether to keep the existing driver type, click Yes.
- When asked to provide a name for the printer, use a name that helps you identify this printer.
- Within most Windows applications, you can use Print Setup to select this printer.
If you captured a printer port to print from DOS applications within Windows 98/ME, use standard DOS printing commands to direct print output to the captured printer port.
Note: Pcnfsd version 2 must be running on the host for NFS printing.
