Installing Verastream Interface for Microsoft BizTalk Server
Technical Note 10064
Last Reviewed 31-Jul-2006
Applies To
Verastream Host Integrator version 5.5 through 6.0
Summary

This technical note describes requirements and instructions for installing the Verastream Interface for Microsoft BizTalk Server version 1.0.

Note: This technical note applies to Host Integrator versions 5.5 and 6.0 only. Beginning in version 6.5, integrated installation and improved support are provided for current Microsoft technologies. For version 6.5, refer to the online help topic: http://www.attachmate.com/docs/verastream/vhi/6.5/help/designtool/BizTalkInterface.html.

This technical note is organized into the following sections:

What is the Verastream BizTalk Interface?

The Verastream Interface for BizTalk Server links Microsoft BizTalk Server projects to data and logic residing in IBM Mainframe, AS/400, HP, and VT hosts. It enables you to design and execute BizTalk Orchestrations that access host applications without leaving the BizTalk environment.

The Verastream BizTalk Interface product provides multiple components:

  • Verastream Interface: Enables connections from BizTalk directly to a Verastream Host Integrator Session Server, or through a Web Service.
  • Schema Builder: A wizard for creating a schema file (XSD) for connecting to and interacting with a Verastream model. The resulting schema can be incorporated into a BizTalk project (using BizTalk Orchestration Designer) to manage communication between the Orchestration and a host application through a Host Integrator model.
  • Visual Studio Add-in: Enables you to run Schema Builder from the Tools menu in Visual Studio .NET. Automatically installed with Schema Builder.

Verastream BizTalk Interface 1.0 was originally released for use with Verastream Host Integrator version 5.5, but also works with version 6.0.

Note: Host Integrator 5.5 and BizTalk Interface 1.0 install shortcuts to the WRQ Verastream folder. Host Integrator 6.0 installs shortcuts to the AttachmateWRQ Verastream folder, but the BizTalk Interface shortcuts are installed in a separate WRQ Verastream folder.

System Requirements

The requirements for installing components are as follows.

Verastream Interface Requirements

The computer to which you install the Verastream Interface must have the following software already installed:

Note: The Verastream BizTalk Interface has also been successfully tested with Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 and Visual Studio 2005, with some minor issues found. See Known Issues with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. (BizTalk Server 2000 and BizTalk Server 2002 are not supported.)

Schema Builder Requirements

The computer to which you install the Schema Builder must have the following software already installed:

  • Microsoft .NET Framework, version 1.1
  • Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003

Note: The Verastream BizTalk Interface has also been successfully tested with Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 and Visual Studio 2005, with some minor issues found. See Known Issues with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005.

Downloading and Unpacking the Product File

Download the product file:

  • As a maintained customer, obtain VHI-6.0-windows-biztalk-standard.exe from the Download Library. To access this file your organization must have a current maintenance plan for Verastream Host Integrator Development Kit. For more information on using the Download Library, see Technical Note 0200.
  • As an evaluating customer, register for trial software at http://www.attachmate.com/Evals/ to download the VHI-6.0-windows-biztalk-eval.exe file.

To verify that your downloaded file is complete and authentic, see Technical Note 1988.

Run the downloaded file to unpack it. Unpacked files are created in the directory C:\VHI-6.0-biztalk-standard (for full licensed product) or C:\VHI-6.0-biztalk-eval (for trial evaluation product).

Installation

Use the following information to install the Interface and Schema Builder components.

Note: If you have installed an earlier version, uninstall it before upgrading. See Uninstalling the Verastream BizTalk Interface Components. To find your installed version number, see Determining the Installed Versions.

Installing Verastream Interface

Install the Verastream Interface on the same drive and computer where BizTalk Server is already installed.

In the unpacked files directory, run Interface\Windows\Setup.exe.

Note: If you have Host Integrator 6.0 installed, during installation you will see a warning dialog that reports, "A Newer Version of WRQ Verastream Host Integrator was found on this machine." Click OK to proceed.

The default destination folder for the Interface is C:\Program Files\VHI\BizTalk2004.

The Interface installer creates an Add/Remove Programs entry named WRQ Verastream Interface for BizTalk Server 2004 v1.0.

The Verastream Interface assumes Microsoft BizTalk Server is installed to C:\Program Files\Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004. If BizTalk was installed to a different location, to use the installed examples, you must edit the setup.bat files in the four Examples subfolders.

Installing Schema Builder

Install Schema Builder on the computer where Visual Studio and BizTalk Server are already installed.

In the unpacked files directory, run SchemaBuilder\Windows\Setup.exe.

The default destination folder for the Schema Builder is C:\Program Files\VHI\BizTalk2004\SchemaBuilder.

Note: By default, the Schema Builder is installed to a subfolder of the Interface. This relationship is recommended. Do not install the Interface and Schema Builder to the same folder.

The Schema Builder installer creates the following entries in Add/Remove Programs:

WRQ Verastream Schema Builder for BizTalk Server 2004 v1.0
WRQ Verastream Schema Builder Visual Studio Addin v1.0

Troubleshooting Installation

The installers use third-party Java-based technology (InstallAnywhere from Zero G Software). If the installer hangs during installation, try the following:

  • Check that you have enough disk space for the installation.
  • Temporarily stop running anti-virus software or Symantec pcAnywhere.
  • Turn off your hardware acceleration display. There are known issues with certain versions of Java running with certain video cards.

When installing the Interface and Schema Builder components, installation log files are created:

WRQ_Verastream_Interface_for_BizTalk_Server_2004_v1.0_InstallLog.log
WRQ_Verastream_Schema_Builder_for_BizTalk_Server_2004_v1.0_InstallLog.log

The installation log files are created in the respective installation destination directories (by default, C:\Program Files\VHI\BizTalk2004 for the Interface and C:\Program Files\VHI\BizTalk2004\SchemaBuilder for the Schema Builder).

Cleaning Up Installation Files

After completing installation, you may wish to delete the directory C:\VHI-6.0-biztalk-standard (for full licensed product) or C:\VHI-6.0-biztalk-eval (for trial evaluation product).

Determining the Installed Versions

To find the exact version number of the installed components, see the version.txt file in the respective installation directories (by default, C:\Program Files\VHI\BizTalk2004 for the Interface and C:\Program Files\VHI\BizTalk2004\SchemaBuilder for the Schema Builder).

Version 1.0.80 (dated April 2005) released with Host Integrator version 6.0. This includes a fix for XML tags being removed from input documents when using the Process String interface. The prior shipping release was version 1.0.70.

Uninstalling the Verastream BizTalk Interface Components

Use the following steps to properly uninstall BizTalk Interface components:

  1. If you have configured any of the examples, run the cleanup.bat file located in the corresponding Examples subfolder.
  2. In Microsoft BizTalk Server, if you have deployed an assembly that uses the Verastream Interface, you should undeploy the assembly and delete all ports that reference the assembly.
  3. Close the BizTalk Server Administration tool. Close any Microsoft Visual Studio projects using BizTalk.
  4. If you have saved any BizTalk projects in the C:\Program Files\VHI\BizTalk2004 directory, copy them to a different location.
  5. It is suggested that you stop the BizTalk Server in order to release the Verastream Interface files.
  6. In Add/Remove Programs, remove "WRQ Verastream Schema Builder for BizTalk Server 2004 v1.0" and "WRQ Verastream Schema Builder Visual Studio Addin v1.0" (if installed).
  7. In Add/Remove Programs, remove "WRQ Verastream Interface for BizTalk Server 2004 v1.0."
  8. If the Verastream Interface adapter still appears in the BizTalk Server Administration tool, remove it and restart the BizTalk Server. You should then be able to delete the remaining C:\Program Files\VHI\BizTalk2004 files and directory.

Known Issues with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005

Although the Verastream BizTalk Interface was originally designed for use with Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004 and Visual Studio .NET 2003, it has also been successfully tested with Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 and Visual Studio 2005 with some minor issues found:

  • In the Examples subfolder deployment .bat files, the environment variable VS71COMNTOOLS must be changed to VS80COMNTOOLS.
  • The solution and project files in the Examples subfolders must be opened in Visual Studio 2005 to convert them. Otherwise, deployment will fail.
  • The add-in was designed for Visual Studio .NET 2003, so you cannot launch Schema Builder from the Tools menu in Visual Studio 2005. Schema Builder can still be run from the Start menu program shortcut.

Further Information

For additional information on using the Verastream BizTalk Interface, see the installed HTML help files. Interface Help and Schema Builder Help shortcuts are installed to the following location:

Start > Programs > WRQ Verastream > Interface for BizTalk Server 2004

Note: Host Integrator 5.5 and BizTalk Interface 1.0 install shortcuts to the WRQ Verastream folder. Host Integrator 6.0 installs shortcuts to the AttachmateWRQ Verastream folder, but the BizTalk Interface shortcuts are installed in a separate WRQ Verastream folder.
