*The SP notation indicates a supported minimum service pack level for the Microsoft Windows operating system.
**On the IBM AIX 6.1 platform, Technology Level 6100-04 Service Pack 3 (TL 6100-04 SP3) is recommended.
Host Integrator uses multiple processors (symmetric multi-processing, or SMP) when available. Intel processors that incorporate Hyper-Threading technology can be used with operating systems that provide support for it (such as Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Server 2008).
For running Host Integrator version 6.5 or higher server components in virtual machine environment, Attachmate tests and supports VMware (http://www.vmware.com). Other virtualized environments are supported on a "best effort" basis.
Minimum memory, processor speed, and disk space requirements are described in the Installation Guide (available at http://support.attachmate.com/manuals/vhi.html). For best performance, your physical memory should exceed minimum requirements (recommended minimum 1 GB of RAM, and an additional 128 MB of RAM for each 100 concurrent sessions).
The following platforms are supported by the Design Tool and Web Builder.

**When running on Windows Vista with User Account Control enabled, administrative privileges are required (see also Technical Note 10084). To configure Windows Vista for Web Builder projects, see Technical Note 10081.
To use the Design Tool application, a minimum video resolution of 1024x768 is required.
Minimum memory and disk space requirements are described in the Installation Guide (available at http://support.attachmate.com/manuals/vhi.html).
The following information clarifies VHI support for 64-bit environments:
In version 7.0, a web browser is used to run web applications generated with the Web Builder tool. The following browsers are supported:
In version 6.6 and earlier, a supported web browser is required for the Administrative WebStation, Help, Host Emulator configuration, and Web Builder components. Note: Your web browser must have the following capabilities enabled: Java applets, JavaScript, cascading style sheets, and pop-ups.

Host Integrator installs and supports the following Java Runtime Environment (JRE) versions:
| VHI Version |
JRE Version |
Subdirectory |
| 7.0 |
1.6.0_16 |
attachmate/verastream/java/jdk1.6.0_16/jre/bin |
| 6.6 |
1.5.0_15 |
<VHI>/jre/bin |
| 6.5 |
1.4.0_02 |
<VHI>/jre/bin |
Releases are not officially re-tested with later Java versions. However, for accurate logging time stamps, JRE 1.5.0_06 or later is recommended for DST updates.
On IBM AIX platforms, VHI 7.0 does not install Java due to redistribution restrictions. Before installing VHI 7.0 on AIX, you must install IBM's JDK 1.6 SR5 or higher. The VHI interactive installer will prompt for your JDK directory path.
For more information about Java, see http://java.sun.com/.
To develop a client application (or modify an application generated with Web Builder), you need an appropriate development environment, in addition to Client Connector Requirements.
| To develop a… |
You need… |
| .NET application: Note: To link to .NET data types from the VHI MSDN-style help, or generate .NET project types: |
Microsoft Visual Studio* Microsoft .NET Framework SDK |
| Visual Basic or C++ application: |
Microsoft Visual Studio, version 6.0 or higher |
| ASP or ASP .NET web-based application or Web Service: |
Microsoft IIS web server is required |
| C/C++ application: |
API source files are located in the include subdirectory |
| Java application, or model Java event handlers: |
a Java IDE is recommended |
| JSP web-based application: |
Apache Tomcat (Verastream Web Server), which is installed with the Development Kit |
*VHI support for .NET development environments is as follows:
Depending on the connector (AppConn) technology used, the client application you develop has the following runtime requirements.
For your Windows client application to use the VHI .NET Connector, Microsoft .NET Framework must be installed. The following .NET Framework versions are supported by Host Integrator.
VHI version 7.0 or 6.6: .NET Framework version 3.5, 3.0, and/or 2.0
VHI version 6.5: .NET Framework version 2.0 and/or 3.0 (see also Technical Note 10077)
VHI version 6.0: .NET Framework version 1.1 or 2.0 (see also Technical Note 40034)
Beginning in version 6.6, the .NET Connector (pure C# managed code) can be deployed and managed as part of your .NET client application code. In versions 6.0 and 6.5, the .NET connector must be installed using Setup (either Development Kit or Windows Server Kit) and relies upon the COM connector.
For your Windows (ASP, VB, VBScript, or C++) client application to use the VHI COM Connector, the appconncom.dll (version 6.5 or higher) or appconn.dll (version 6.0 or earlier), and xerces-c_1_4.dll files must be installed and registered. Choose the AppConn COM Connector option in the Development Kit or Server Kit installation on Windows.
The VHI Java Connector is designed to work on any operating system that supports Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE) or Enterprise Edition (J2EE), including 64-bit operating systems. For information about JRE versions that are installed and supported by Host Integrator, see Java Requirements section above.
The Java connector .jar files (apptrieve.jar, vhiprop.jar, wcp.jar) are installed with either Development Kit or Server Kit (to the Host Integrator lib/java subdirectory) and must be added to your CLASSPATH.
On Windows, the VHI C Connector is included in installation of the VHI COM Connector. The appconn.dll and xerces-c_1_4.dll files are installed in your Windows System32 directory.
On UNIX, the directory containing libappconn and libxerces-c1_4 files must be added to your LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable (on Linux or Solaris) or LIBPATH environment variable (on AIX). The Server Kit installs these files to the <VHI>/lib directory.
